Safeskies Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation promoting aviation safety through safety education – at the biennial Safeskies conference and other targeted events.
The Safeskies Australia conference has been held since 1993, showcasing contemporary approaches to aviation safety. Past conferences have focused on a range of themes, including ‘Setting the right aviation safety culture’; ‘Safety in the globalised economy’; Learning the lessons of the past’; ‘Making safety management systems work’; and ‘Training and change’.
The 2022 theme is ‘Sharing the skies safely’.
The conference runs over two days, and opens with the Conference dinner and Sir Reginald Ansett Memorial Lecture to be held in 2022 on Tuesday evening 20 September in the Great Hall of Parliament House.
Built in the 1920s to accommodate Australia’s members of parliament when parliament was sitting, the Hyatt has been painstakingly restored to showcase its art-deco heritage. The state-of-the-art Canberra Airport terminal is certainly the best of its kind in the region, if not the world. Not only is it functional and efficient, it is a place of interest and calm, with world-class sculptures, landscaped gardens and stunning water features. It is approximately a 15-minute journey from Canberra Airport to the city centre by car or taxi.
Taxi
The airport taxi rank is located centrally on the ground floor of the terminal building, near the baggage carousels in the arrivals hall. The taxi rank is fully undercover and the waiting area is indoors for your convenience. You can also phone ahead, or book online. Ride sharing
Uber is available from Canberra Airport. Request a pick-up or obtain an estimate from the Uber app. New users can sign up for an Uber account here. Your Uber driver will pick you up from the Express Pick-up car park, located on the ground floor of the green Indoor Park, a short 20-metre covered walk from the arrivals hall.
ACTION buses
Transport Canberra runs regular ACTION bus services between the Canberra Airport terminal and city bus station seven days a week. You will need a MyWay ticket, which can be purchased from the airport.
Hotel transfers
Some Canberra hotels provide coach transfers to and from the airport.
Canberra is 10 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, and in September, will be on Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
The conference hosts and organisers have arranged for photography onsite throughout the conference. The images may be used for post-conference reports, case studies, marketing collateral and supplied to industry media if requested. If you do not wish for your photo to be taken, there will be an opportunity to say ‘NO’ to pictures when you complete the online registration form.
